Designer Q&A: Ceren Tezgider

The Plantclub design team is responsible for each detail of our office plant design. Our diverse selection of indoor plants and their plant knowledge makes it so that many different visions can come to life in our members’ offices.
When it comes to installing plants in spaces inclined toward interior design, many factors are taken into account. Along with a general sense of what greenery will look good where, designers must also be aware of what will thrive in the environment while also keeping aesthetics in mind. Everything should come together under the visions of the designer and client and flow with the established architecture of the space.
Plantclub designer Ceren Tezgider is well aware of all the aspects that go into a successful plant design. With her background in interior design and architecture, Ceren has worked on a number of Plantclub projects including our installations at Hier Foods and DealCircle HH. We spoke to her about the fulfilling parts of working with plants, her design process, and the future of sustainable design.
Plantclub: Describe your background in architecture and interior design. How have you used this knowledge-set in personal projects/personal life?
Ceren: I received my bachelor's degree in architecture in Istanbul and then worked as an architect and interior designer before pursuing my M.A. in Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning in Hamburg. Returning to my studies allowed me to reconsider my relationship with architecture and design in order to develop more sustainable practices.
Plantclub: Can you list any specific inspirations for your design sense?
Ceren: I'm inspired by the nature and landscape of my home country, Turkey, though traveling and seeing architecture in other countries always gives me new insights as well. Additionally, I love to read design books and visit museums for new ideas. I appreciate that at Plantclub I have the opportunity to visit so many impressive office spaces as each new space inspires new ideas.
Plantclub: How has your background (personal, educational, or otherwise) impacted your outlook on design?
Ceren: I previously worked in the construction industry on large-scale urban regeneration projects in Istanbul. While this was extremely interesting work, I realized that there was often a lot of waste or misuse of resources. My work at Plantclub allows me to combine my passion for design with a focus on sustainability and respect for the natural world.
Plantclub: What plant design project are you most proud to have worked on and why?
Ceren: I was very proud of the plant design I contributed to the ParshipMeet Group office in Hamburg. It involved a big installation over 4 floors in 2 phases, and I believe it's a great example of how adding greenery to a space can be an effective tool for interior design.
Plantclub: What's the most important aspect to consider when designing for a space?
Ceren: First of all, communication with the client and understanding their expectations is essential. After this, spatial dynamics will always be a crucial thought when assessing a new space and of course, it is always important to think about the light in a space, particularly when considering which type of plants will do well in a given space. The right plants will thrive and be happy in the right space.

Plantclub: What do you think is the future of sustainable design?
Ceren: Improving the health of our planet in the face of climate change and global warming needs to be the focus of designers now and in the future. We need to focus on working with renewable materials, recycling, and reducing waste at every stage of a project. I also believe that bringing the natural world into urban environments through focusing on green spaces and promoting biodiversity will play a huge role in urban design.
Plantclub: What do you enjoy the most about your work with plants?
Ceren: Greenery makes a room feel alive. Personally, working with plants not only makes me feel healthier but I also get to bring that vibrant energy into people's workspaces to create a truly uplifting and inspiring environment.
