Green workplaces: Pleo
On our regular plant-care rounds, we stopped at the Pleo office to take some photos of their beautiful green workplace. While there, we had a chat with some Pleo (it rhymes with Rio, if you weren’t sure) employees – to see how they’re getting on with their new greenery.
Founded in Copenhagen in 2015, Pleo is the brainchild of Jeppe Rindom and Niccolo Perra. Having worked together at Tradeshift, they experienced the difficulties of old-fashioned expense management. Their solution? Offering smart company cards and software to automate spending reports – giving employees more freedom, and finance teams more control.
They’re trusted by over 15,000 companies, spread across six European markets. Since starting out, the Pleo team has grown to more than 200 people. As well as the HQ in Copenhagen, they have offices in London, Berlin, Stockholm, and Madrid.
Pleo’s 175-square-meter Berlin office is located in the Ahoy co-working space close to Bernauer Straße. Thanks to high ceilings and large windows, the space is filled with natural light. With industrial features and clean grayscale furnishings, the interior offers the perfect backdrop to a sea of green.
Creating an office environment where your team can thrive is central to employee health and happiness – and even helps with retaining talent. This was clear when we spoke to André, Head of Sales at Pleo: "Feeling comfortable with your surroundings is key, and plants play an essential role in this experience."
We used a mix of standing plants and greenery installed on exisiting structures.
Our goal was to enliven the space, without clogging up their bright and airy workplace. We set cascading plants on shelves and hung them from existing metal runners – to add a splash of green without eating into the floor space. This was balanced with a number of eye-catching statement pieces in large standing pots throughout the office.
We brought in tropical plants with different leaf textures and colors, to curate a relaxing and stylish space. The visual interest provided by varied foliage and different plant densities helps to promote productivity and innovation. Using grey terracotta pots and white planters, our design complemented the existing color scheme.
