We rent plants to workplaces, care for them, and rehome them when a space moves on. That circular model is where most of our impact lives, and it's where we can show our working. Below is what we do, and where we're honest about what we haven't measured yet.
Our footprint is small by design. Routine care happens by bike and public transit, our warehouse runs on a renewable electricity contract, and the plants, pots and substrate we work with move from one member space to the next instead of being thrown out and replaced.
None of that is a reason to overclaim. We'd rather tell you what's real, what's still an estimate, and what we're actively working on with our suppliers.

Plants are rented, cared for, rehabilitated and rehomed. Replacing them is the exception, not the model.

Plants stay in the loop.
When a member space changes or a plant is cycled out of an installation, it doesn't go to landfill by default. Healthy plants are rehabilitated in our warehouse and replanted, sold on through our pre-loved plant sale, or given a second home. Pots, liners and water meters move between installations rather than getting binned.

- Peat-free substrateWe use a mineral substrate, so no peatlands are dug up to fill our pots. It's cleaned and reused, and only discarded if a plant has disease or pests.
- Durable speciesWe choose long-living plants suited to indoor spaces, which keeps replacement rates down in the first place.
- Gentle on pestsWe manage pests with beneficial insects (integrated pest management) and keep chemical pesticides to a minimum.
- Less waterOur semi-hydroponic care system is designed to use less water than traditional soil-based care.
Low-carbon care
Most of our care leaves no tailpipe.
Our plant experts do their regular rounds in Berlin and Hamburg by bike and public transit. Vans come out only for installations and swaps, not routine visits. Our warehouse electricity is on a renewable contract, and plants that travel from outside Europe come by sea, not air.
It's a deliberately light way to run a plant-care service, and it's the part of our footprint we measure most closely today.
Growing together
A supply chain we can point to.
Our own footprint only tells part of the story. The bigger lever is upstream, with the growers and makers we buy from. We work with suppliers who hold real, third-party-verified credentials, and we align with their environmental practices.

The honest part
What we measure, and what we don't yet.
Plenty of sustainability pages lead with a single reassuring number. We'd rather be straight about where our data is solid and where it isn't.
What we report
We keep a sustainability report structured to the EU's VSME standard for small businesses. It's self-reported and not yet independently audited, and we say so. It covers our transport and energy footprint, our circular practices, and our people.
The gap we won't paper over
We don't yet have a full figure for the embodied carbon of the plants, pots and substrate we buy. That's the biggest missing piece, and we're working with our suppliers to quantify it rather than publishing a low number that looks complete but isn't.
On certifications
Plantclub doesn't hold its own third-party eco-certification today. Instead of implying one, we point to our suppliers' verified credentials, our renewable electricity contract, and this openly reported approach. If member demand grows, a certification like ISO 14001 is something we'd pursue.
