A living workplace at Doctolib

Doctolib’s Berlin office is big. 8,000 m² across four floors, with people moving between desks, meeting rooms and shared spaces throughout the day.

Bringing plants into a workplace at that scale isn’t just about choosing what looks good. It means understanding how each part of the office is used, finding the right plants for different light conditions, and planning how hundreds of plants come together across one workplace.

For Doctolib, Plantclub was involved from the first planting concepts through to planning, delivery and installation. The goal was simple: create a greener workplace that feels good to spend time in — and that can keep looking good long after installation day.

Office planting starts with the space

With four floors to work across, there wasn’t one planting solution we could simply repeat everywhere.

Different areas have different light, different rhythms and different jobs to do. A large shared space can take more expressive planting. Greenery can soften meeting areas or create natural separation between different zones. Quieter corners need plants that suit the conditions they’re actually growing in.

So we started with the space: how people move through it, where they spend time and where plants could make the biggest difference.

From there, we selected plants for each area based on light, scale, character and how they would grow over time.

The result isn’t 8,000 m² filled with plants for the sake of it. It’s greenery placed where it earns its space.

Installing plants across 8,000 m²

On a project this size, good office planting is as much about planning as it is about plants.

Behind the finished space was the less visible work: coordinating approvals, planning quantities and locations, preparing the plants and planters, and organizing delivery and installation across four floors.

By the time the plants arrive, much of the work has already happened.

That planning matters. It allows a large installation to come together as one workplace rather than a collection of individual plants.

And installation is only the beginning.

Keeping office plants healthy

Choosing plants is the easy part. Keeping them thriving month after month is where the real work starts.

Plantclub doesn’t deliver an office full of plants and then disappear.

A dedicated Plant Expert visits Doctolib every other week to water, feed, prune and check the plants’ health. Care changes depending on the plant type, season and conditions in the space, not simply according to a watering calendar.

If something isn’t thriving, we deal with it early.

Across a four-floor workplace, that ongoing plant care is particularly important. It keeps the planting healthy and the space looking considered, without someone at Doctolib having to become the unofficial office plant person.

The maintenance isn’t an extra. It’s part of the service.

Why bring plants into the workplace?

We like plants. We also like being accurate about what they can do.

Research has associated greener workplaces with benefits including improved focus and productivity and reduced stress. We don’t promise that a few plants will clean your office air or transform how your company performs.

What plants can do is change the experience of a space.

They soften hard interiors, bring nature into people’s everyday line of sight and add texture and life to spaces that can otherwise feel purely functional.

Doctolib’s planting wasn’t designed as a one-off installation.

As the team and workplace change, the plants can change with them. They can move, planting can be adapted and the overall setup can evolve without starting again.

And when a plant eventually leaves the space, that doesn’t have to be the end of it.

Plants that return to Plantclub are refreshed, repurposed or rehomed wherever possible, giving them another life in another workplace or home.
